Recognizing the co-occurrence of substance use disorder alongside mental health disorders is necessary to identify appropriate treatments and medications to improve a patient’s health and well-being.
In this session, we will provide providers with a greater understanding and awareness of the growing population of co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders and the attached stigma in the post-acute and long-term care settings. We will cover background information of both disorders as well as the treatment guideline information needed to provide up-to-date care. Additionally, we will address specific medication administration guidelines and medications to avoid in this population.
