Did You Know? Hepatic Encephalopathy

The liver serves numerous functions, including the metabolism of medications and the filtration of toxins from the blood. In chronic liver disease, the impairment of these functions can lead to an accumulation of drugs and toxins. When these reach the brain, the result may be a marked decline in mental status known as hepatic encephalopathy (HE).
